Comfort plates from the Italian kitchen — a regular favourite on the Ajo menu.
Ajo Idea Space is a pavilion-style café and cultural space in Uttara — part restaurant, part gallery, part gathering place — with a second home in Gulshan.
The Uttara pavilion was built around a living tree — dining happens under a prefabricated metal vault, in the shade of green.
Winner, Professional category — Ajo Idea Space, Gulshan, designed by Ar. Md Rabiul Islam of GoAAT.
Ajo Idea Space was founded by Khaled Mahmud, an artist and entrepreneur who grew up around a family food business of some sixty years. Ajo is where that food heritage meets his other life — art, architecture and the simple idea that a café can be a cultural space.
The original Uttara space is a pavilion beside a park: a prefabricated metal vault for a roof, a living tree growing through the dining area, and a top floor kept for the community to gather. In Gulshan, the second branch continues the philosophy — a space built with repurposed material by GoAAT (Group of Architects and Thinkers).
People come to Ajo to eat — and stay for everything around the food. Four ways to experience the space:
On select evenings, Ajo hosts ticketed supper-club dinners by Arpon — intimate, set-menu nights where the room, the art and the food are all part of one experience.
Seats are limited and announced in advance. Guests reserve by leaving their details through the Ajo Idea Space Facebook page.
Ticketed at BDT 7,500++ per guest, as reported by The Daily Star. Follow the Facebook page for the next date.
The everyday Ajo: an Asian fusion kitchen drawing on Italian, Mexican, Indian and Asian cooking, served in a green, light-filled dining pavilion.
Come for a long lunch under the tree, coffee with friends, or dinner before the evening crowd — the café is open every day of the week.
See the Café section below for the cuisines we serve. Today's specials are posted on Facebook.
Ajo was founded by an artist, and it shows. The Gulshan branch sits inside the Ikebana Experience Centre, where the café shares its home with an art gallery and an MIB Spirit outlet.
Exhibitions and the building itself — assembled from repurposed material — make a coffee run feel like a small cultural visit.
The Gulshan space won the Berger Award for Interior Design (BAID) 2025, Professional category.
The top floor of the Uttara pavilion was designed as a community-gathering space — a place above the café where people meet, talk and linger.
It is the "idea space" in Ajo Idea Space: room for adda, small events and the conversations a café table is too small for.

Ajo's kitchen is listed as Asian fusion — and the menu travels. These are the cuisines our guests come back for:
Comfort plates from the Italian kitchen — a regular favourite on the Ajo menu.
Bright, bold Mexican flavours — the spicy counterpoint to a slow afternoon.
Indian classics, cooked with the confidence of a sixty-year family food heritage.
The house style — Asian dishes and fusion plates that tie the whole menu together.

Ajo began in Uttara and grew a second home in Gulshan. Both are cafés; both are cultural spaces.
The pavilion beside the park — a metal-vault roof, a tree growing through the dining room, and the community floor upstairs. Home of the supper club.
Built from repurposed material by GoAAT, the Gulshan space pairs the café with an art gallery — and took home the Berger Award for Interior Design in 2025.
Ajo runs on conversation. Supper-club seats and café updates are announced on our Facebook page — and the phone is always the fastest way to reach the Uttara space.
