"What a beautiful find. Lunch by the River beside/under an orange tree that is bursting with Oranges, terrific menu with something for everyone and our lunch was delicious but if all that wasn't enough, the Staff are outstanding."
Breakfast in the shade of a real orange tree
Behind our High Street café, the courtyard garden is watched over by a real, fruiting orange tree — guests lunch beside it while it is "bursting with Oranges", and in season the kitchen squeezes fresh juice from the tree's own fruit. Step through to the rear deck and you are on the levee, looking out over the Hunter River.
It is a setting Maitland knows well: the official MyMaitland guide pairs The Orange Tree with Lavenders as the two breakfast picks overlooking the Hunter River on its Riverlights itinerary, and ThreeBestRated counts us among Maitland's three best cafés.
Come for the generous portions and the staff guests call "absolutely delightful" — and stay a little longer in the dog-friendly back garden, made for people-and-puppy watching. Fully licensed, the café pours a glass of wine with lunch overlooking the water: as one regular puts it, "small bar vibes with a big heart."
